What is Opportunities Hub

Opportunities Hub is a new way to find and respond to NSW Government supply opportunities. Integrated with your buy.nsw Supplier Hub profile you can search and filter based on opportunity type and products and services.  

Opportunities Hub also includes a new enhanced products and services list. 

For suppliers, the new list gives you the ability to find opportunities perfectly matched to you. In time, you will also be able to access agency-specific opportunities through the Hub. 

For buyers, the list allows you to improve your opportunity targeting and find suppliers that better match your needs. 

The Opportunities Hub replaces our existing eTendering scheme and tenders search functionality. 

Registration and access 

You can access Opportunities Hub from the buy.nsw home page or your Supplier Hub account. You do not need a Supplier Hub account to view opportunities but will need an account to submit a response or create an opportunity.  

Supplier Hub registration is fast and easy. You will need to provide your name and your email address. We will also ask you to create a password.  

Once your email is verified, you will be able to complete setup of your account and access your dashboard. Your dashboard will give you access to all buy.nsw applications and services.

Finding and responding to opportunities 

Finding opportunities 

As a supplier you can find opportunities in two ways.  

  1. The Opportunities Hub will provide a list of all open opportunities published on eTendering. You can search and sort this list for opportunities that may be of interest to you. From the Hub you can view more detail and respond if you wish. 
  2. If you have a Supplier Hub account opportunities will automatically be matched to the products and services that you have selected as part of your profile. Matched opportunities will appear on your supplier dashboard. From your dashboard you will be able to view detail and respond to the opportunity. 

Responding to opportunities 

You will need a buy.nsw Supplier Hub account to respond to NSW Government supply opportunities. If you do not have an account, set up is quick and easy at https://buy.nsw.gov.au/login/signup. 

When you respond to your selected opportunity you will automatically be logged into eTendering to complete your response.  

New and enhanced products and services 

The Opportunities Hub features a new and enhanced products and services list. The new list fills gaps we had previously identified and adds new options to make it easier to find opportunities.  

The new products and services have also been implemented across buy.nsw including supplier profiles, eTendering and supplier search. 

If you have an existing Supplier Hub account, we have automatically matched your selected products and services to the new list. To provide more detail or better match the categories to your company’s offerings you can amend your products and services in the company details section of your profile. Any changes you make will also be used to match opportunities to your profile. 

Publishing an opportunity

There are no changes to how you currently create and publish an opportunity through eTendering.  

A new and enhanced products and services taxonomy has also been implemented as part of the Opportunities Hub. These products and services replace the current UNSPSC category selection when you set up your RFx or disclose a contract.  

The new products and services fill some gaps we had previously identified and expand the list to provide a better match for the range of goods and services NSW Government purchase. It ensures that when you select the products and services for your opportunity it will be matched to the right suppliers. 

For live opportunities the existing UNSPSC has been mapped in the back end to the new product or services. If you amend your opportunity you will need to select a category from the new products and services to be able to publish the amendment.

You will also see the new products and services when you search for a supplier.  

Why a new taxonomy was implemented

UNSPSC implementation on eTendering was always prone to significant human error. And did not reflect how suppliers described their businesses.

In using UNSPSC it was up to the tender owner to correctly type in the UNSPSC code. This resulted in opportunities being incorrectly coded, sent to the wrong suppliers, not included in the opportunity email or not being displayed on supplier dashboards. The UNSPSC in tender creation was only ever used to match to opportunities to suppliers. It had no functional impact on the opportunity itself.

In addition, the Supplier Hub product and service categorisation was closely aligned to scheme capabilities. Feedback from procurement teams and scheme owners suggested this was creating confusion in the general buying community and should be changed.

Search, find and respond to government opportunities.
